God's Word Lights Your Path
Bible study on God's word.

David, a man deeply devoted to God's word, considered God's word to be the light that guided his life. In a psalm he said, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Ps. 119:105).

How is God's word a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, as we walk in the 21st century?

God Communicates Through His Word
Paul explains that God revealed His mind to the apostles, who in turn, revealed God's mind to us in God's word.

Paul says, "For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. . . . Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words" (1 Cor. 2:10-13).

If God hadn't revealed His mind to us through the apostles, we couldn't know God's will and be saved. Therefore, God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

What Happens When We Obey God's Word?
God's word is light, showing us the path to heaven. Therefore, we must obey God's word to live in heaven with Him.

What happens when we obey God's word (1 Pet. 1:22-23; Heb. 5:9)?

  • Our souls are purified.
  • We are born again through the word of God.
  • We are saved.

Jesus is the Word (Jn. 1:1). When we obey Jesus, who is the way and the truth and the life, we are saved (Heb. 5:9; Jn. 14:6).

We Are Lights To The World
We walk in the light of God's word; therefore, we are lights to the world.

Jesus tells us that we are light of the world, like a city on a hill that can' be hidden. Therefore He commands us to let our lights "shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:14-16).

The greatest thing we can do while living upon earth is be a light to the world, showing others the right path to walk -- the path that leads to heaven and eternal life.

Are you using God's word as a lamp to your feet and a light to your path?
