God has commanded us to submit to the local government. If we resist the local government, we resist God. Local authorities do not bear the sword in vain; local authorities are God's ministers to execute His wrath on evil doers.

Death was a form of punishment employed by the Roman government. Christians are commanded to obey the government (Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Pet. 2:13-17).
