God, Godhead:
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Bible study on God: Godhead.

Col. 2:9

There is a Godhead (cf. Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14). The Godhead dwells in Jesus.

The word "God" can represent one single Person of the Godhead or all three Persons of the Godhead (cf. Jn. 1:1-2).

Jn. 5:18; 6:27

The Father is God (Jn. 8:41, 54; 20:17; Rom. 1:7; 15:6; 1 Cor. 1:3; 8:6; 15:24; 2 Cor. 1:2, 3; 2 Cor. 11:31; Gal. 1:1, 3, 4; 4:6; Eph. 1:2, 3, 17; 4:6; Eph. 5:20; 6:23; Phil. 1:2; 2:11; 4:20; Col. 1:2, 3; 3:17; 1 Th. 1:1; 3:11, 13; 2 Th. 1:1, 2; 2 Th. 2:16; 1 Tim. 1:2; 2 Tim. 1:2; Tit. 1:4; Philemon 1:3; Jas. 1:27; 1 Pet. 1:2, 3; 2 Pet. 1:17; 1 Jn. 5:1; 2 Jn. 1:3, 9; Jude 1:1; Rev. 1:6).

Jehovah (i.e., the Father) is Jesus' Father and believers' Father (Matt. 3:17; 5:45).

Col. 2:9

Jesus is God (Jn. 1:1, 14; 20:28; Rom. 9:3-5; Tit. 2:13-14; 1 Jn. 5:20).

Jesus' divine attributes:

  • eternal (Jn. 8:58; Heb. 13:8; Rev. 22:13).
  • Creator / Sustainor of creation (Jn. 1:3; Col. 1:16-17; Heb. 1:3).
  • giver of eternal life (Jn. 14:6; 1 Jn. 5:20; Rev. 22:12-13).
  • one with the Father (Jn. 10:30; 14:20; 17:21-24).
  • image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15; cf. Jn. 1:18).
  • omniscient (Matt. 26:34; Mk. 2:6-8; 16:14; Lk. 5:22; 9:47; 22:31; Col. 2:3; cf. Lk.16:15; Acts 1:24).
  • possesses all authority in heaven on earth (Matt. 28:18).
  • power to forgive sins on earth (Matt. 9:6).
  • baptized in the name of the father, Son, and Holy Spirit to be saved (Matt. 28:19).
  • omnipotent, has power to subject all things to Himself (Phil. 3:21).
  • His resurrection declared that He was the Son of God (Divine, Lord) (Rom. 1:4).
  • has authority over eternal judgment (Jn. 5:22-29; cf. Jn. 12:48; Heb. 6:9; Jn. 1:1).
Rom. 8:9

The Holy Spirit is God - the Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit is a separate, living, and intelligent Being apart from the Father and Son (Acts 13:2-4).

The Holy Spirit's divine attributes:

  • Creator, eternal (Gen. 1:1-2, 26).
  • baptized in the name of the Fath, Son, and Holy Spirit Son to be saved (Matt. 28:19).
  • finger of God (Lk. 11:20; cf. Matt. 12:28).
  • power of God (Lk. 1:35).
  • commanded inspired men as to what to do - sent men out to preach (Acts 13:2-4).
  • Spirit of truth (Jn. 14:17; 15:26; 16:13; 1 Jn. 5:6; cf. Ps. 31:5).
  • searches and reveals the mind of God (1 Cor. 2:10).
  • sanctification of man (2 Th. 2:13).
  • salvation, baptize believers into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; cf. Matt. 28:18-19).

Rank and order in the Godhead:

  • The Father is first in rank (Jn. 10:29; 5:20, 36; 1 Cor. 15:22-28; Jn. 5:22-23).
  • Jesus is second in rank (1 Cor. 11:3; Mk. 16:19; Acts 2:33; 1 Pet. 3:21-22; cf. Jn. 5:36; 10:29; 1 Cor. 15:25-28).
  • Jesus is higher in rack than the Holy Spirit. Jesus is at the right hand of God (Mk. 16:19; Acts 2:33; 1 Pet. 3:21-22; cf. Acts 2:33).
