Government: Obedience to Civil Authorities
Bible study on obedience to the civil government.

Acts 4:19; 5:29


If the civil government contradicts God's command, we must obey God rather than men.


Rom. 13:1-2; Tit. 3:1- 2; 1 Pet. 2:13-14, 17


We must obey the governing authorities. They are appointed by God (cf. Jn. 19:11 Pilate would not have had power against Jesus unless it came from God).


Rom. 13:3; 1 Pet. 2:14


God established governing authorities for the punishment of evil doers and the praise of those who do good.


Rom. 13:4


Governing authorities are God's ministers to execute wrath on those who practice evil.


Rom. 13:2


If we resist the government, we resist the ordinance of God and bring judgement on ourselves.


1 Pet. 2:17


We must honor the king.


1 Pet. 2:13-14, 15-16


We must obey the government for the Lord's sake.


Rom. 13:3-5


We must obey the government for conscience sake.


Rom. 13:6-7

It is a Christian's duty and obligation to pay taxes (cf. Matt. 22:15-22).
